Victor John 'Happy' Tardino Sr., 92

Bethlehem, NY - Victor John 'Happy' Tardino Sr., 92, of Delaware Avenue died peacefully on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at St. Peter's Hospice Inn in Albany after a brief illness.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was son of the late Antonino Tardino and Angelina (Giaccone) Tardino and devoted husband of the late Clara M. 'Smiles' (Ziliotto) Tardino for over 65 years.

He had resided in Manhasset, NY from 1957-86, Bronxville, NY from 1986-2005 and in Delmar, NY since August of 2005. He was a graduate of John Adams High School and a 1935 graduate of St. John's University, later earning his license as a Certified Public Accountant and operated Tardino and Tardino in New York City for 60 years, retiring in 1998. He was also an Army veteran of World War II.

Victor participated in many activities over the course of his life including as a faulty member of Fordham University, and member of the Estate Planning Board of Sloan-Kettering Hospital in New York City. He was generous of his time and money, working along side his devoted wife Clara on many Bronxville projects. They served tirelessly, as members of both the Bronxville Beautification Committee and the Bronxville River Parkway Preservation Society. They were major contributors to the Bronxville fountain restoration, had a room named for them at the Bronxville Public Library, and helped bring the many 'resting' benches all over Bronxville. Among other accolades, they were both honored for all their work by Westchester County with a Proclamation naming a day for them.

Vic was a gentle man who loved his wife without question and enjoyed his work as though it was his hobby. He was a loving father, a friend to everyone and a helping hand to anyone in need. To everyone's enjoyment, he was always quick with a one-liner, making everyone laugh. Born without an internal compass, he would also regale all with the many stories of getting lost over the years.

Survivors include his children, France-Anne Tardino, Victor J. (Monica Cajero) Tardino Jr., Robin (Daniel) Langer, Jeri-Marie (Daniel) Hemerlein, Anthony 'Tony' (Jennifer Flood) Tardino and John N. (Diane Meryl) Tardino; 14 grandchildren; 3 great grandsons; a brother, John T. (Joanne) Tardino, a sister, Faye (John) Vitolo, a sister-in-law, Eleanor (Edward) Heibertáand several nieces and nephews.

Family will greet relatives and friends at the home of his daughter Robin at 14 Valley Drive in West Sand Lake on Saturday, Dec 20th from 2-5PM. Interment and memorial service will be at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, Long Island, NY at a later date.

Contributions may be made in memory of Victor John Tardino Sr. to St. Peter's Hospice Inn 315 South Manning Boulevard Albany, NY 12205 or the charity of one's choice.
