Thomas A. 'Tommo' Pilling, 76

South Burlington, VT- Thomas A. 'Tommo' Pilling, 76, died Sunday, June 11, 2006 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Thomas B. Pilling and the late Elizabeth M. (Snyder) Pilling.

He had resided formerly in Troy, and most recently in South Burlington, Vermont and was a graduate of Troy High School.

Mr. Pilling began his lifelong career as a hardware salesman at J.M Warren while still in high school and spent many years as the Capitol District representative for Masback Hardware of NYC.

Tom was famous for his garden, especially his tomatoes and pole beans. For Tom, the best part of gardening was sharing the harvest with all his friends and neighbors. He was also an experienced hunter and angler, especially enjoying fishing at Snyder's Lake and the Tomhannock Reservoir. An excellent bowler, he belonged to leagues for many years, won several trophies and once bowled a perfect 300 game. He enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Tom was a confirmed member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Troy. Tommo loved sports and spent many happy hours watching "his" Red Sox, Mets and Jets. He also enjoyed country music, especially his all time favorite, Dolly Parton.

He is survived by two sisters, Nancy Bowser and her husband Robert of Williston, VT and Joan Thompson of Leipsic, OH and two nieces, Wendy B. Ewing of Fletcher, VT and Sandra Ruskey of Leipsic, OH.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the graveside service which will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Elmwood Hill Cemetery Belle Avenue Troy with Rev. Michael Gorchov, Rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, officiating.

The family would like to thank the staff at Pillsbury Manor in South Burlington, Vermont, and Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vermont, for the excellent care they provided Tom and the kindness with which they did it.
