Sam J. Smith Jr., 66

Schodack - Sam J. Smith Jr., 66,of Miller Road, died Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Albany Medical Center Hospital in Albany after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Troy, he was the son of Edith Eaton Smith Teal of Schodack and the late Sam Smith Sr.

He had resided in the East Greenbush and Schodack areas most of his life and was a graduate of Columbia High School in East Greenbush.

Sam was a roofer for Roofers Local #241 in Albany for 20 years, retiring in 1992. For the past 25 years, he has been the caregiver for his mother. He was an Army veteran serving in Spain and France from 1958-61.

Survivors in addition to his mother include his children, William F. Smith of Saratoga, Sam J. (Cathy) Smith III of Averill Park and Carol Ann (James) Mulvihill of Victory Mills; a grandson, James Mulvihill; two sisters, Wanda Waring of Florida and Sharon Mason of Latham; an uncle, George D. Malone Sr. of Ballston Spa and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Monday evening at 7:00 PM at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 4392 Route 150 West Sand Lake with Rev. C. Joseph Ingraham, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4-7 PM prior to the service.

Interment Woodlawn Cemetery in East Schodack in the spring.
