Salvador P. Scarlata, 85

Sand Lake Salvador P. Scarlata, 85, of Millers Corners Road, died Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital Troy, after a brief illness.

Born in Albany, he was son of the late Anthony and Assunta Mercurio Scarlata and husband for 57 years of Josephine M. DiMaggio Scarlata. He was raised in Albany, resided on Burden Lake for 25 years and the past 15 years on Millers Corners Road and was educated at Blessed Sacrament School and attended Philip Schuyler High School in Albany.

Mr. Scarlata was a self employed heavy equipment operator many years ago and later worked for the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 106 for 60 years, retiring in 1979.

He was a very active founding member and Past President of the Burden Lake Improvement Association and a communicant of St. Henry's Church in Averill Park. He was a Navy SeaBees veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre and was stationed in the Alution Islands and Iwo Jima.

Survivors in addition to his wife include three sons, Steven P. Scarlata (Judith) of Wynantskill, Michael A. Scarlata (Helen) of Albany and Christopher P. Scarlata of Boise, ID; a daughter, Susan Houser (Jerry) of East Greenbush; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters and 3 brothers.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 9:00am from the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 4392 Route 150 West Sand Lake, and at 9:30am from St. Henry's Church in Averill Park where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2-5pm. Interment Holy Sepluchre Cemetery in Rensselaer.

Contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Scarlata to the Burden Lake Improvement Association or to St. Henry's Church PO Box 550 Averill Park, NY 12018.
