SSG Ronald William Alund

Wynantskill - SSG Ronald William Alund, Army retired, 53, of Dennis Road died Friday, August 29, 2014, at Samuel Stratton VA Medical Center Albany after a long illness.

Born in Schenectady, he was son of the late William F. Alund Sr. and Bertha Schuman Alund Gimlick and husband for 32 years of Eva R. Proctor Alund. He was raised in Albany and had resided in Wynantskill for the past 20 years. and was a graduate of Albany High School as well as much education while in the Army. 

Mr. Alund was employed as the delivery manager for Monroe Wheelchair in Latham.  He was an Army veteran serving for 20 years in the active Army and active Army National Guard. During his service, he received many medals and commendations including Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal 3rd Award, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal 4th Award, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Noncommissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 2, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and Marksman.

He was a communicant for St. Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill.  

Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, Patrick S. Alund, Wynantskill; a twin brother, Donald J. Alund, Colonie and several nieces and nephews.  

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 from 4-7 PM. 

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 AM at the funeral home and at 10:30 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Church Wynantskill where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Anthony Ligato, Pastor.

Interment will be in Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Schuylerville with full military honors.
