Ruth Douglas Smith, 88

Troy - Ruth Douglas Smith, 88, of Burdett Avenue Troy died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Eddy Village Green in Cohoes after a long illness.

Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late Walter Douglas and Pauline Ryan Douglas and wife of the late Kenneth D. Smith. She had resided in Troy most of her life and most recently at Beechwood in Troy and Eddy Cohoes and was a 1938 graduate of Troy High School and Mildred Elley in Albany.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and many years ago was a payroll specialist at Behr-Manning in Watervliet.

She was a member of Ilium Literary Club, Troy Women's Club, Hope United Methodist Church, formerly Memorial United Methodist and various church groups. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and embroidery.

Survivors include a daughter, Judith R. Smith of Troy; a son, Kenneth D. Smith of Troy; a granddaughter, Kayla J. Smith of Alabama; a cousin, Edna Wells of Troy and her children, Susan Wells of Troy and June and Bob Foltz of Arizona; two sisters-in-law, Doris Smith of Lexington, KY and Helen Brooks of Chicago, IL; her beloved cat, Emeril; several nieces and nephews and many lifelong and new friends at Beechwood. She was predeceased by her beloved dog, Perry.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 10:00 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy with Rev. David Martin , Pastor of Hope United Methodist Church, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery Troy.

The family would like to thank the Eddy Village Green and a special thank you to the Certified Nursing Assistants from Accent Health who took good care of mom in recent months.
