Ruth H. (Harriman) Bordt

October 20, 1926 ~ May 8, 2015 (age 88) 88 Years Old

North Greenbush - Ruth Harriman Bordt, 88, died Friday, May 8, 2015, at Van Rensselaer Manor after a long illness.

Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late Rensselaer County Sheriff Harold Harriman and Freda Larson Harriman and wife of the late Harry P. Brown and Frederick Bordt. She was raised  in Averill Park and after she married moved to Westchester, NY and was a graduate of Averill Park High School. 

Mrs. Bordt was employed as a substitute teacher at Averill Park High School and Assistant Librarian at Fox Lane High School.

She was instrumental in starting the Sand Lake Library with the Friends of the Library raising $1000 to help fund the library. She was a member of the Averill Park/Sand Lake Historical Society and Women's Club of RPI. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, and was an avid reader. These are all secondary to spending time with the loves of her life - her family.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald (Lorriane) Brown, FL and Gregory (Elizabeth) Brown, Averill Park; a daughter, Kim (Jim) Overbaugh, Ballston Spa;a step daughter, Marian (Jim) Patterson, Cleveland , OH; a brother, James 'Ed' Harriman, FL; two sisters, Shirley (Salvador) Mauriello, Grafton and Betty Oathout, Watervliet; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  4392 Route 150 West Sand Lake on Monday, May 11, 2015 from 4-7 PM. 

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Stephen Schlossberg, officiating.

Interment will be in  Sand Lake Union Cemetery Sand Lake.

A special thank you from Ruth’s family to their Special Angel Anna who meticulously cared for their mom for the past 4 years.  As well as the entire A3 staff at all shifts of the Manor.
