Russell F. Locke, 90

Troy - Russell F. Locke, 90, of Lillian Lane died Monday, July 15, 2013, at Samaritan Hospital.

Born in Chicago, IL, he was son of the late Russell F. Locke and Sarah J. Ross Locke McCahan and husband of JoAnn Bayrich Locke. He was raised in Winnetka, IL and resided in Troy since 1953. He was a graduate of New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL and attended Harvard University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in 1943 and his Master of Arts in 1944. He spent a year in Paris as a Harriet Hale Wooley Scholar from 1947-48. He studied organ with Andre Fleury and musical research with Nadia Boulanger.

Mr. Locke held teaching posts including Harvard University where he was a Teaching Fellow from 1944-47; Bowdoin College as an Instructor and Associate Professor from 1948-53 and Emma Willard School where he was an Instructor in Music from 1953-2003.

He was a board member of the Albany Symphony Orchestra and Program Annotator for the orchestra and a board member of the Troy Chromatic Concerts and Friends of Chamber Music.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter, Frances Locke-Rosenberg, Chicago, IL and four grandchildren, Daniel, Naomi, Natan and Hadas Rosenberg.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Russell F. Locke to the Russell F. Locke Scholarship Fund, Emma Willard School, Pawling Avenue, Troy, NY 12180 .
