Ronald P. Wheeler, 52

Averill Park - Ronald P. Wheeler, 52, of Hoags Corners Road died Saturday, November 29, 2008 surrounded by his family at Albany Medical Center Hospital after injuries sustained from an automobile accident.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Thomas C. Wheeler Jr. and Thelma (Austin) Wheeler and was the devoted, dedicated and loving father of Shelby A.H. Wheeler.

Ron was raised in Watervliet, resided in Poestenkill and Averill Park most of his life and was a 1974 graduate of Averill Park High School.

A funeral directors assistant, landscaper and car detailer for the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. in Troy for 30 years, he was a friend to everyone visiting the home. He was also a hairdresser and santa to many.

Ron lived these last several years for his daughter, Shelby. She has been his strength through many serious health issues. He has been a very active 'Cheer Dad' for the Averill Park Pop Warner cheerleaders, of which Shelby is a member. He was an avid bowler, having bowled a 300 game at Hi-Way Recreation in Wynantskill on January 5, 1994 on lanes 1+2 in the Hi-Way Sportsman's League and for many years he competed in the LILAC Bowling Tournament in Rochester finishing 2nd one year as well as competing in the New York State Men's Tournament for several years .

Survivors in addition to his daughter include his wife, Robyn Hale Wheeler of Rotterdam; his sister, Beverly J. Wheeler of Averill Park and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is survived by many special friends, having touched many lives. He was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth I. Wheeler, August this year and a sister, Barbara Smith.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10:30 AM at the Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church 520 Pawling Avenue Troy with Rev. Karyl Hopp, Pastor, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc., 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy on Tuesday from 4-8PM. Interment will be in Memory's Garden in Colonie.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Ron may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Northeastern New York Chapter 6 Greenwood Drive East Greenbush, NY 12061. A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of Albany Medical Centers' emergency room and especially SICU, their compassion and skill will never be forgotten.
