Robert V. Urquhart Sr., 71

Defreestville - Robert V. Urquhart Sr., 71, died Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at his residence after a brief illness.

Born in Cohoes, he was son of the late Alexander Urquhart and Ruth VanEvery Urquhart and husband of Patricia Hart Urquhart. He was raised in Troy, had resided in Defreestville for the past 37 years and was educated at Troy Public School 18 and was a graduate of Troy High School class of 1961.

Bob was a machine operator for Bendix Friction Materials in Green Island for 30 years retiring 1995. He was also employed as a police dispatcher for the North Greenbush Police Department, a security investigator for OTB, a police officer and founding PBA President for the Coxsackie Police Department, and was a landscaper for HiTech Lawn and Snow Removal in North Greenbush.

Bob enjoyed boating on the Miss Bingo V and was a member of the Coxsackie Yacht Club. He was a past member of the Brunswick #1 Volunteer Fire Company, Past Chief of the Defreestville Fire Company, member of the NYS Fire Chief's Association and a member of UAW #1508. He was a past Bar Chairman of the Beer Garden. Most of all he loved spending time with friends and family. Bob was a Navy Veteran serving as a plank owner and commissioning crew member aboard the USS Enterprise Aircraft Carrier.

Survivors in addition to his wife, include his 4 children, Col. Robert V. (Jemma) Urquhart Jr. US Army, Afghanistan, Bridget (Lance) Farrell, Poestenkill, Ruth (Matt) Heim, Defreestville, and William J. (Maggie) Urquhart, Defreestville; his 2 brothers, William (Virginia) Urquhart, Davie, FL, Thomas (Dawn) Urquhart, Niskayuna, and sister, Linda (Tom) Buckley, Coral Gables, FL; his grandchildren, Robert III and Ryan Urquhart, Justin and Hunter Farrell, Nicole (Chris) Rhodes, Amanda Heim, Olivia, Callahan and Breigh Urquhart; a great grandson, Dylan Heim; his sister-in-law, Maureen Urquhart, Troy and brothers-in law, Jim and Kate Hart, Saratoga and Frank and Carol Hart, Waterford; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and Papas beloved pet JP Farrell. Bob was predeceased by a brother, Alexander Urquhart Jr.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Sunday, from 3 - 6 PM.

Funeral service will be held Monday, at 11am at the FUNERAL HOME.

Interment will be in Blooming Grove Cemetery Defreestville.
