Robert Marshall Ruether Sr., 90

Troy - Robert Marshall Ruether Sr., 90, of Beechwood Retirement Community Troy, died Monday, January 7, 2008 at his daughter's home in Brunswick after a long illness.

Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Ernest Ruether and Jessie (Waddell) Ruether and husband of the late Madeline Rapier Ruether and Catherine Rapier Boblitt Ruether.

He had resided in Troy and was a graduate of Troy High School, Troy Business College, a GE Business Training course and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, class of 1964 with a degree in Management Engineering.

Mr. Ruether was employed as Business Administrator for St. Anne's Institute in Albany for 10 years, retiring in 1984. Prior to that he was treasurer of Mohawk-Fuller Brush Company. Previous employments included director of accounting at Tek Hughes (a division of Johnson and Johnson) manager of accounting services at Behr-Manning (Norton Company), and was the principal associate accountant for the New York State Teachers"" Retirement System.

He was a communicant, lector and Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Victory Church, a past President of the Albany Chapter of the National Association of Accountants, an Honorary Kentucky Colonel, a member of the residents' board of directors of Beechwood Retirement Community and in his early years sang with the Troy Vocal Society. He was an Army veteran serving as a 1st Lieutenant in the Armored Division in the European Theatre. He previously attended Officers' Candidate School in Ft. Knox, Kentucky. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his children, Janet Ruether( Dr. Edward, deceased) Stasio of Slingerlands, Robert M. Ruether Jr. of Palo Alto, CA., Catherine Ruether (Dr. Gary) Kuzma of Greensboro, NC and Madeline Ruether (Dr. Brian) Kennedy of Troy and his grandchildren, Dr. Kevin Kuzma, Rebecca and Michelle Kuzma, Christopher, Lt Jeffrey, Elizabeth and Catherine Kennedy.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 8:30 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Victory Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Rev. Randall Patterson, Pastor.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-8 PM.

Interment Oakwood Cemetery in Troy.
