Robert George Ross, 74

Troy- Robert George Ross, 74, died April 20th, after a short illness. Born in Troy, Bob was the son of the late Frederick Lewis Ross and Thelma Alheim Ross Barnum and husband of Sibyl Goerold Ross, also of Troy.

He was educated at School 2 and School 18, and was a member of the Troy High School Class of 1949 and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Class of 1953, where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at RPI, Bob was a member of Theta Chi and Pi Tau Epsilon honorary fraternity, ASME, SAE, and the Column Club. Bob attained the rank of Eagle Scout in October 1947 with Boy Scout Troop 9. He served his country as a Lieutenant J.G. in the US Navy during the Korean War.

Bob was proud to be the fourth generation of Ross Valve Manufacturing Company, the company founded in 1879 by his great-grandfather. He retired from Ross Valve in 1997 after a 45-year career, which included terms as Secretary/Treasurer and later President.

He was a member of the 9th Presbyterian Church, and later 5th Avenue Presbyterian Church, where he was served on the Board of Deacons and as Secretary. Bob was a member of the Forty-Niners Reunion Committee of Troy High School, Apollo King Solomon Masonic Lodge #13, Canstatter Volksfest, Germania Hall, (where he was a life member), Watervliet Elks, and a director of the Society of the Friends of St. Patrick. He was also a member of the Country Club of Troy where he enjoyed golfing, especially with the R.O.B.'s. He served on the Board of Directors of the YMCA and the Rensselaer County Historical Society.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sibyl; two sons, Robert Andrew Ross (Lynn) of Brunswick and William F. Ross (Darlene) of Ballston Lake; one daughter, Eda Ross Montgomery of Concord, MA; his loving grandchildren, Adam Andrew, Evan Robert, and Isabella Kirsten Lynn Ross of Brunswick, NY, April Jean and Anya Elise Ross of Ballston Lake, NY, Hunter Frederick Montgomery of Concord, MA, and Taylor Geary Montgomery of Chapel Hill, NC; a sister-in-law, Francine L. Ross of Brunswick and several nieces and nephews. Bob is predeceased by his brother, Paul A. Ross.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at the the First United Presbyterian Church 1915 Fifth Avenue Troy.

Relatives and friends may call at THE EARL CHAPEL at Oakwood Cemetery on Oakwood Avenue Troy Friday from 3-7 PM.

Interment Oakwood Cemetery in Troy.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Northeast Health Foundation 2224 Burdett Avenue Troy, NY 12180 in Bob's memory.
