Robert J. Fasoldt, 81

Sand Lake-Robert J. Fasoldt, 81, of Charles Land Apartments, died Saturday, February 25, 2006 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Rensselaer, he was the son of the late Staats Fasoldt and Sarah (Delaney) Fasoldt and husband of the late Marguerite A. Nichols Fasoldt and Carolyn Corliss Fasoldt.

He had resided in the West Sand Lake area since 1970 and was educated at Columbia High School in East Greenbush.

Mr. Fasoldt's career with the New York Telephone Company spanned over 37 years. He worked in various assignments including, lineman, sales department, rates and regulatory department and various managerial assignments in Amsterdam, Schenectady and Albany. He retired as Budget Director 22 years ago.

He was a lifetime member of the Amsterdam Lodge of Elks, a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Sand Lake Kiwanis and a communicant of St. Henry's Church in Averill Park. Mr. Fasoldt served in the 60th Combat Engineers Battalion, 35th Infantry Division in Omaha Beach, Normandy during World War II, taking part in the Battle of Normandy and was involved in the Battle of St. Lo which sparked the mad dash across France to Germany. He was a volunteer speaker on his experiences during World War II at Columbia High School. In addition to his pride in serving his country, he was most proud of his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Albanese (Tony) of Scotia and Carol Fasoldt of West Sand Lake; two sons, James Fasoldt (Joni) of Averill Park and Thomas D. Fasoldt (Flora) of Averill Park; six grandchildren, Timothy Albanese and Kalan, Jamie, Matthew, Andrew and John Fasoldt; a sister, Alice Walsh of Albany and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Elaine Marie Fasoldt, a grandson, Nicholas Albanese and brothers and sisters; Alida Morgan, William Fasoldt, Marion Teliska and Ernest and Staats Fasoldt.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 9:30AM at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 4392 Route 150 West Sand Lake and at 10AM at St. Henry's Church Old Route 66 in Averill Park where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev. Thomas Morrette.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 4-8 PM.

Interment Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery in Glenmont.
