Richard G. Robison, 80

TROY Richard G. Robison, 80, of Troy died Sunday, November 14, 2010, at Samaritan Hospital. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Ellis H. Robison and Doris B. Robison and husband for 50 years of the late Ellen B. Robison. He was raised in Poestenkill and Troy and resided most of his life in the Loudonville and Troy areas. Richard was a 1948 graduate of The Albany Academy and a 1952 graduate of the Albany College of Pharmacy. Mr. Robison served in Europe in the US Army in 1953-1954. Upon his honorable discharge in 1954, he began his career at John L. Thompson, Sons & Company where he retired in 1987 as Vice President and Treasurer.

Mr. Robison was an active community volunteer and philanthropist. He served on many local boards and committees, including boards of trustees at The Albany Academy, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Capital District YMCA, Troy YMCA, Albany County Historical Association, and Friends of Pruyn House. Additionally, he was President of the Robison Family Foundation.

Mr. Robison was a member of the Vestry and communicant at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Colonie, member of the Vestry, Warden and communicant at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Albany, and a member of the Top of the Hill Bunch at St. Peter's. He was a member of the Country Club of Troy. Richard had a life-long love of gardening and was a Master Gardener with the Albany County Cooperative extension.

Survivors include a son, Andrew C. (Donna) Robison of San Juan Capistrano, CA; a daughter, Cynthia R. (George) Lyman of of Winnetka, IL; sisters, Barbara R. (Joseph) Stegmaier of Cincinnati, OH and Elissa R. (Harry) Prout Troy; a brother-in-law, John (Dianne) Brunner of FL and NC; sisters-in-law, Betty V. Robison of Mill Valley, CA, and Joanne Brunner of Buffalo; his grandchildren, Ellen Lyman, Jacob and Kendall Robison, and George Lyman IV; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, James A. Robison, Sr.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 10:30 AM at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 107 State Street, Albany with Rev. Paul Hartt, Rector, presiding. Entombment will be in St. Peter's Church Columbarium, Albany. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Richard G. Robison to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 105 State Street, Albany, NY 12207 or The Community Hospice, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144.
