Reynolds 'John' Deacon, 76

Averill Park - Reynolds 'John' Deacon, 76,of Old Route 66, retired Lt. Colonel US Army, died Friday, November 23, 2007 at Barnwell Nursing Home in Valatie after a long illness.

Born in New Haven, CT, he was the son of the late Malcolm Deacon and Hazel (Reynolds) Deacon and husband for 53 years of Marjorie Ann Kirkland Deacon.

He was raised in Manchester, Connecticut and resided since 1977 in Averill Park, NY. He graduated from Manchester High School in Manchester, CT and attended the University of Vermont and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for Metallurgical Engineering.

Lt. Col. Deacon served during the Korean War and Vietnam War and was stationed in Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Germany and various Army bases around the United States, retiring from the service in 1976.

He worked for New York State Real Property Management, assessing commercial properties for over 20 years.

He was a Past Commander of the Sgt. Walter Adams American Legion Post in Averill Park, a member of the VFW of West Sand Lake, and member of the Hendrick Hudson Rod and Gun Club in Averill Park. He also repaired rifles for Albany Academy for Boys over a 10 year period.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Patricia Deacon-Laird of Averill Park and Dr. Sandra Deacon (Stanley Bourdon) of Withee, WI; a son, John (Katherine) Deacon of Sandpoint, ID; four grandchildren, Jason Laird of Averill Park, Elizabeth and Margaret Bourdon both of Withee, WI and Mathew Deacon of Sandpoint, ID and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George (Sally) Kirkland of Ocala, FL.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 9:00 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4-8 PM.

Interment Grove Hill Cemetery in Rockville, CT.
