Rev. Dr. Samuel H. Shinn

March 15, 1930 ~ April 5, 2015 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Troy - Rev. Dr. Samuel H. Shinn, 85, of  Beechwood Apartments died Sunday, April 05, 2015, at Evergreen Commons after a prolonged illness.

Born in North Korea, he was the eldest son of the late Un Tae Shinn and Che Kim Shinn and husband for 58 years of  Young Ai  Lee Shinn. He escaped North Korea in 1955 to study religion at the Han Sin Theological Seminary.  He and his family came to the United States in 1964 where he studied at Colgate Rochester Divinity School, Master in Divinity,  Dubuque Theological Seminary, Master in Sacred Theology and McCormick Theological Seminary,  Doctor of Ministry. 

He devoted his life to Christ and served churches in Henderson, NC, Kingfisher, OK, Watonga, OK, Walnut, IA, Lake Andes, SD, Los Angeles, CA,  Wahiawa, HI and the Albany Korean Presbyterian Church in Albany. He was the Consultant to the Presbyterian Church Synod of the North East and later an Interim Minister in Troy, Heuvelton, NY and San Rafael, CA.  Many years ago, he was a Chaplain for the Korean and US Army through an Exchange Program through the Korean Army.

He was an avid swimmer, lifeguard, musician and loved to teach music.  He was an avid fisherman and loved to play golf.    

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons,  Andrew (Elizabeth) Shinn, Los Angeles, CA and Timothy (Elizabeth) Shinn, Dexter, MI; two grandsons,  Nathaniel and Brendan Shinn; 5 brothers and 2 sisters. 

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Thursday from 4-7 PM. 

Funeral service will be held Friday at 10AM at the First United Presbyterian Church 1915 Fifth Avenue Troy with Revs. Eric Fagans and Chang Cho, officiating.

Interment will be in  Albany Rural Cemetery Menands.
