Reinier E. 'Ren' deJong, 81

Averill Park - Reinier E. 'Ren' deJong, 81,of Birdhill Road, died Thursday, February 28, 2007 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after a serious illness.

Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Marcus deJong and Irma (Mochrie) deJong and husband for 19 years of Elizabeth Malik deJong.

He was raised in Nassau and resided in Sand Lake for the past 32 years.

Mr. deJong was a stationary engineer for the NYS Office of General Services. He had also worked as a self employed milkman, operated Ren's Refrigeration, was a Rensselaer County Sheriffs Deputy and a driver for Seagroatt's. He enjoyed his daily outings to Millers Supermarket in West Sand Lake and playing lottery at the Jiff-E-Mart in Averill Park. He was grandfather to many.

He was a member of the Rensselaer Elks and the Stephentown Valley Rod and Gun Club. Ren was an Army Air Corp veteran of World War II.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his children, Sharon Romer (John) of East Greenbush, Richard deJong of Menands, Brenda Adams (John) of Nebraska, Paula Evans (David) of Nassau, Virginia Ruggiero (John) of Castleton, Linda Henchey (Hal) of Averill Park, Wayne Taylor (Jack) of Schodack, Nancy Taylor (John) of Troy, David Taylor (Michelle) of Troy, Lance Taylor (Donna, #1 daughter-in-law) of Averill Park, James Taylor (Lynn) of Troy and Ellen Taylor (Mark) of Troy; 29 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Eugene and Loren deJong and Frank Golden.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 9AM at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 4392 Route 150 West Sand Lake with Rev. Richard Neal, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 4-8 PM.

Interment Bloomingrove Cemetery in Defreestville in the spring.
