Ralph H. Underwood, 95

Troy - Ralph H. Underwood, 95, of Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center, Burdett Avenue, died April 1, 2008 after a long illness.

Born in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Orange H. Underwood and Grace Herrick Underwood and husband of the late Helene Smith Underwood.

He was raised in Glens Falls, Ticonderoga and Oneonta and resided for over 70 years in the Troy and Colonie areas. He graduated as Salutatorian of Oneonta High School and took courses in business in White Plains, NY.

Mr. Underwood was a tax examiner for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance for 10 years retiring in 1980. Prior to that he worked in various supervisory capacities at Railway Express Company for 35 years.

He was a member of the Speigle Elders, New York State Retirees and the Men's Club at the Eddy. He enjoyed golf, bocci at the ICC in Troy, tennis and slow pitch baseball.

Survivors include his son, Ralph (Carol) Underwood Jr. of Noblesville, IN, a daughter, Joyce (Clifford Jr.) Apgar of West Sand Lake; his companion, Helen C. Brust of Brunswick; a sister, Ruth J. Underwood of Glens Falls; two brothers, John E. Underwood of Myrtle Beach, SC and Robert J. (Jayne) Underwood of Greenwich, CT; his grandchildren, Carrielynn (Robert Pecker) Apgar of Averill Park, Susan (Jeff) Bowen of Muskegon, MI, Elizabeth (Bill) Eagleson of Carmel, IN and Martha (Todd) Bowles of Noblesville, IN; his great grandchildren, Rachel, Rebecca, Justin, Jared, Sam, Katie, Hannah, Claire, Andrew and Alexandra and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Ralph Underwood to the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center, 2256 Burdett Avenue, Troy, NY 12180.
