Ralph Darian, 83

Niskayuna - Ralph Darian, 83, of Vly Pointe Drive died Monday, August 10, 2009, at Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Scotia after a brief illness.

Born in Detroit, MI, he was son of the late Ralph G. Darian and Marie Levonian Darian and husband of Toni E. Mangino Darian. He was born in Detroit, raised in Troy and resided in Niskayuna during his married life since 1966 and was a graduate of Troy High School, class of 1944 and earned his Bachelor's degree from Hobart College in Geneva, NY in 1950.

Ralph was a corporate officer for Levonian Brothers Meat Packing in Troy since 1947 being responsible for sales and credit retiring as President from 1990-97 and prior to that from 1939-47 worked in the family market Strand Food Market in Albany as the meat and produce purchaser and sales person.

He was active in the Project Business Division of Junior Achievement in the early 80's, a United Way volunteer since 1970 and a member of the Board of Directors in the mid 80's and a member of the United Armenian Calvary Congregational Church in Troy. He participated on the Industry Panel at Hudson Valley Community College as a wholesale food speaker and as a meat industry representative speaker at area colleges. Ralph was a member of the Apollo Masonic Lodge #13 Troy, Watervliet Lodge of Elks, Oriental Temple Shrine Plattsburgh, a private pilot and member of the Upper Fifteen Flying Club at Albany Airport having flown for some 10 years.

During World War II, he was stationed in the Italian Theatre in the 5th Army Second Corp, Infantry Division and post VE day was a morse code operator for the US headquarters for the move from Italy to Japan.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a brother Leo (Mary) Darian of Colonie and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.

Entombment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum Schenectady.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Ralph Darian to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York 965 Albany-Shaker Road Latham, NY 12110.
