Professor Emeritus Edmund R. Padvaiskas

November 17, 1931 ~ December 25, 2014 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Wynantskill - Professor Edmund R. Padvaiskas, 83, of Merry Hill Road died Thursday, December 25, 2014, at St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Lawrence, MA, he was son of the late Sylvester Padvaiskas and Anne Shimonis Padvaiskas and devoted husband for 54 years of Eileen Woodstock Padvaiskas. He was raised in Lawrence, MA and had resided in the Capital District area since 1960 and was a graduate of Lawrence, MA schools, earned his Bachelor's Degree from Merrimack College.  He was awarded scholarships and Fellowships from St. John's Law School and Fordham University and Columbia University continuing to study European and Russian History. 

Professor Padvaiskas was employed at Siena College in Loudonville enjoying teaching European and Russian history from 1960 until his retirement in 1996, when he was given the title of Professor Emeritus.

He was a member of the English Speaking Union, Rensselaer County Historical Society, Troy Chromatics Concerts and Siena Opera Club.  He authored articles for the Baltic Review and Franciscan Journal, did lectures on the evils of the Soviet Regime and was a devoted reader. He was an army veteran serving in the Korean War stationed in Germany.  

Survivors in addition to his beloved wife include a nephew, John Padden; two nieces, Valerie Emerson and Susanne Favreau and his cat, TZU-HSI.  He was also survived by a sister-in-law, Joanne Woodstock Holst; a niece, Alice (Julian Orenbuch) Holst; a grand nephew, Sam and a grand niece, Clara.  He was predeceased by a brother, Anthony Padden and a sister, Frieda Morrison.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 9:00 AM at the St. Mary’s of the Angels Chapel at Siena College in Loudonville with Fr. Daniel Dwyer, O.F.M. and Fr. Dennis Tamburello, con-celebrating.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery Woodside, Queens.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of St. Mary’s Hospital for their care.
