Nancy Duffie Shuster, 82

Troy- Nancy Duffie Shuster, 82,of The Beechwood Community, died Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center in Troy after a long illness.

Born in White Plains, NY, she was the daughter of the late Archibald Duffie and Lulie (Atwater) Duffie. and married William W. Shuster at St Bartholomew's Church, White Plains, NY on June 12, 1948.

She had resided in Melrose for 40 years, moving to Beechwood Retirement Community in Troy in 1993 and was a graduate of White Plains High School class of 1941, earned her B.A. from Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT in 1945 and her Master of Nursing from Yale University in 1947.

Mrs. Shuster was homemaker for many years, and formerly a parish assistant at St. Stephen's Church in Middlebury, Vt., a pediatric nurse at Grace-New Haven Hospital, a parttime Registered Nurse at Samaritan Hospital Troy, taught Red Cross Nurses Aides, was a librarian and teacher at St. John's Day School. Troy. After 1974, she taught quilting for various groups such as Senior Citizens, Cooperative Extension, Home Bureau and RPI students' wives.

She was a former very active member of First United Presbyterian Church of Troy and currently a member of Brunswick Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon. She was a Den Mother in Melrose for 12 years, a committee member of the Comell Cooperative Extension of Rensselaer County, a former president of the Melrose Library Association, a board member and secretary of the former Presbyterian Home in Troy for many years, an American Red Cross bloodmobile volunteer at RPI and active on several Beechwood Community committees.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Huntington (Benjamin) of Evergreen, CO; four sons, Dale Allen Shuster (Julia) of Glendale, WI, William C. Shuster (Chris) of Sterling, AK, Dr. Robert Shuster (Rebecca) of Omaha, NE and Charles John Shuster (Tracy) of Schaghticoke; a sister, Virginia D. Putnam of Durham, NC, a brother, Cornelius R. Duffie of Portland, OR; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. William W. Shuster; son, Dr. Edward L. 'Ted' Shuster; a sister, Myra D. Ledyard and a brother, Dr. John A. Duffie.

A celebration of Nancy's life will be held Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 11am at the Brunswick Church 42 White Church Lane Brunswick.

Interment Memory's Garden in Colonie.
