Michael J. Caruso

June 16, 1917 ~ January 6, 2016 (age 98) 98 Years Old

Troy - Michael J. Caruso, 98, of Beechwood Apartments died Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center Troy after a long illness.

Born in Waterford, he was son of the late Lorenzo Caruso and Sara Campione Caruso and husband for 72 years of Ruth Kelly Caruso. He had resided in Eagle Mills for 50 years and attended Siena College. 

Mr. Caruso was a Senior General Agent for Allstate Insurance Company for 40 years retiring in 1995.

His greatest enjoyment in sports was golf. He was a member of the Country Club of Troy for almost 40 years and a past president of the Capital Artist Opera Company. He was one of the 3 men who founded the local chapter of "Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge" of which he was a past president. He served in World War II in the European Theatre of Operations. Participated in all 5 combat battles. Michael was injured in the Battle of the Bulge. He received a citation from the French Government for participating in the invasion of Normandy in France. He enjoyed traveling all over Europe and a member of Hope United Methodist Church. 

Survivors in addition to his wife include three sons, Paul (Cecelia) Caruso, Lake City, FL, Mark (Cindy) Caruso, Brunswick and Adam Caruso, Brunswick; a daughter, Karin (Paul Schneiderman) Caruso, Stratham, NH; two sisters, Janet Birch, Albany and Beverly Bradford, Fairhope, AL; two grandchildren, Lyndsay Goss and Michael Paul Caruso; three great grandchildren, Jerry, Lily and Evelyn and several nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Monday, January11, 2016 from 4-7 PM. 

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10AM the funeral home with Rev. David Martin, officiating.

Interment will be in Eagle Mills Cemetery Eagle Mills.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Michael Caruso to the Alzheimer's Association of NENY 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405 Albany, NY 12205.
