BRUNSWICK - Maureen T. Messia, loving mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend returned to heaven while surrounded by her entire family Thursday after a brief illness at the Albany Medical Center Hospital. She was 48.
Born on March 17th, 1958, the daughter of John and Augusta Wilson, Maureen grew up in Watervliet and attended St. Brigid's Academy and Catholic Central High School, graduating in 1976. Maureen then attended the Junior College of Albany and Maria College and worked as handbag buyer for Cohoes Manufacturing. Maureen spent her happiest years as a full time mother raising four wonderful children. After her children were of school age, Maureen joined the Brittonkill Central School District, where she worked in many capacities and touched the lives of countless young people.
Maureen loved to cook elaborate family meals and took tremendous pride in her family, home, and work. She dedicated her life to serving others, living life to its fullest and making the lives of her family and friends brighter.
Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Robert A. Messia Jr., children, Robert A. Messia III, Joseph J. (Sage) Messia, Mary C. Messia and Daniel K. Messia all of Brunswick; mother, Augusta Wilson of Watervliet; sister, Patricia (William) Betjemann of Guilderland; brothers, John (Linda) Wilson of Voorheesville, Joseph Wilson of Albany, Mark (Deborah) Wilson of Cincinnati, Oh, Richard Wilson of Mesa, Az and Eric (Donna) Wilson of Syracuse; and many nephews and nieces.
Funeral service will be held Monday at 9:15 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at 10:00 AM at St. Brigid's Church in Watervliet where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 4-8 PM.
Interment St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.
