Matthew Garabedian

Latham Matthew Garabedian, of Troy-Schenectady Road, died Friday at Albany Medical Center Hospital, after a brief illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Matthew and Varvara Darakjian Garabedian and husband for 47 years of Alyce Avakian Garabedian. He was raised in Watervliet and resided in Loudonville and in Latham the past 50 years and was educated at Watervliet High School and Siena College earning his bachelor's degree in economics in 1951.

Mr. Garabedian was an administrative assistant for the New York State Department of Labor for 20 years retiring in 1983 and he also was a real estate broker in the Capitol District for many years. Prior to that, he was an expediter in the finishing department at Al-Tech Specialty Steel in Watervliet.

He was an active member of Holy Cross Armenian Apostolic Church in Troy and a former Trustee and church treasurer. He was formerly a member of the Evening Star Masonic Lodge #75 and an Army Air Corp veteran of World War II.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Matthew M. Garabedian of Clifton Park and Bruce J. Garabedian of Latham; two sisters, Isabelle Hudoyan of Northport, FL and Esther Garabedian of Latham; a brother, Thomas Garabedian of Latham; four grandchildren, Michael, David, Stephen and Kristen and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters Bertha Vartanian and Var Griffin.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:30am from the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenue Troy and at 11:00am from Holy Cross Armenian Apostolic Church with Rev. Arsen Kassabian, Pastor, officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 5-8pm with a service at 7pm. Interment Elmwood Hill Cemetery in Troy.
