Martha G. VanEtten Brightly

Sycaway - Martha G. VanEtten Brightly, 72, of Putnam Street passed away Saturday, March 30, 2013, at her residence surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Born in Hudson, NY, she was daughter of the late Luther VanEtten and Anna Dowling VanEtten and wife of Walter George Brightly Sr. She had resided in New Lebanon for 20 years and in the Troy area for the past 3 years.

Miss Martha most recently taught special education at Red Mill Elementary School for Capital District Questar III BOCES. She also taught in other area schools including the New Lebanon Elementary School.

For many years Martha enjoyed being a communicant and choir member of Immaculate Conception Church in West Lebanon and St. Joseph's Church in New Lebanon, NY. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading books, gardening and her dogs.

Survivors in addition to her loving husband include four children, Walter (Pamela) Brightly Jr., Blissfield, OH, Martha Anne Brightly, Troy, Robert Brightly, Albany and Roger (Tanya) Brightly, New City; her grandchildren, Katrina, Jessie, Adam, Aimee and Isaac; her great grandchildren, Evan, Julian, and James Wesley; a brother, Jonathan and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Peter Brightly and her siblings, Robert, Dorothy, MaryAnn and James.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Tuesday from 4-7 PM.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10AM at Christ Sun of Justice Burdett Ave. Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Edward Kacerguis, Pastor.

Interment will be in Cemetery of the Evergreens in New Lebanon.
