East Poestenkill Marion H. Russell Whitney, 75, of North Road, died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital Troy, after a brief illness.
Born in Wilmington, VT she was daughter of the late Leonard Upton and Hattie Sumner Russell. She had resided the past 48 years in East Poestenkill and was educated at Vermont.
Mrs. Whitney was a homemaker and a beloved and wonderful mother. She was active in the Union Gospel Church in East Poestenkill where she was a Sunday school and a vacation Bible school teacher, a Trustee, worked in the food pantry and was the Sunshine Lady. She loved family, her church and reading the Bible. Mrs. Whitney even cleaned and polished the church that she loved.
Survivors include five daughters, Joan Collins (Douglas) of East Poestenkill, Cheryl Whitney of Troy, Colleen LaPage of Nassau, Iola Pratt (Timothy) of Rensselaer and Jody Singleton (Acie) of Pocahontas, TN; six sons Keith Whitney of Troy, Brian Whitney (Shelia) of East Poestenkill, Arthur Whitney (Linda) of East Poestenkill, Greg Whitney (Lois) of Stillwater, Timothy Whitney (Betty) of Palenville, NY and Bruce Whitney (Tammy) of West Sand Lake; a step daughter, Lucretia 'Lucky' Ballard of Granville; 37 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son Joel Whitney; two grandsons Douglas Collins Jr. and Jeff Taylor and a great grandson Michael Weaver.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00am from the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy with Rev. Harold R. Matson, former Pastor of the Wesleyan Church of Wynantskill, officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 3-5 and 7-9PM. Interment Brookside Cemetery in Poestenkill.
