Mariano De Giorgio, 95

Troy- Mariano De Giorgio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, at Samaritan Hospital on Monday, April 21st. He was born on May 13, 1918 in Cardinale, Italy, the son of the late Maria (Cirillo) and Giuseppe De Giorgio.

Coming to the U.S. in 1961, he settled in Troy, NY. He retired from RPI where he enjoyed his work as Supervisor of Environmental Services.

He was predeceased by his son Giuseppino, who died at the age of five in 1955, his sister Eleonora, his brothers Sebastiano, Domenico, Giovanni, Antonio and Giuseppe. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Maria Giovanna Tassone, also of Cardinale; his devoted daughters, Liliana De Giorgio of Troy; Isabella (Rell) Corina of Ithaca, NY; Josephine (Mark) Lanni of East Greenbush, NY. He was a kind and loving nonno to his 6 grandchildren, John Pishko, Kaelin, Jude and Peter Corina, Daniela and Michael Lanni, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mariano loved being with his family, working in his garden, playing the harmonica, enjoying his wife's cooking, making wine and reminiscing, and writing, about his 6 1/2 years spent in WWII.

His faith and his family were his life. He was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis since 1969. The family wishes to thank Brother Philip Hira and Father Mario Jullian of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Troy. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Oscar Almonte for the quality care given to Mariano for the last 10 years. Mariano has lived a healthy, active life. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the 6th floor nurses and the Hospice staff of Samaritan Hospital for their compassionate, loving care of our father.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 from 4-7 PM.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 9 AM at the funeral home and at 9:30 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Church Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Entombment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum Troy.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Mariano DeGiorgio to the St. Anthony's Shrine Church 28 State Street Troy, NY 12180.
