Marian G. Rainville , 89

Troy - Marian G. Rainville , 89, formerly of North Greenbush and Hadlock Pond, died peacefully Friday, May 13, 2011.

Marian was born on July 1, 1921 in Albany, daughter of Adam and Anna Fehrer Gander. Married in 1947, she enjoyed 56 years with her loving husband John, who died in 2004. She was a graduate of the former Vincention Institute and the College of Saint Rose. Upon graduation, she was hired by General Electric Co. in Schenectady in the minor Payroll Department as one of the first women allowed in payroll to replace the men leaving for World War II. She left GE in 1948 when she was expecting her first child. She was a stay-at-home mom, making many dresses and gowns for her 8 girls.

In 1972 she joined her husband to help manage Gander's Liquor Store in Albany. She summered in Hadlock Pond and was an avid swimmer and water-skier until the age of 76. She climbed her first mountain at age 79.

Marian was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill, and St. Ann's Church in Fort Ann, NY. She was a long-time member of St. Jude's Rosary-Altar Society. She was on the Board Directors and a former secretary of the Lake Hadlock Association.

She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie (John) Wood of North Greenbush, Nanette (Frank) Reid of Northville, MI, Mary Rose (James) DeLaMater of Troy, Ellen (John) Riley of Moretown, VT, Suzy (Jack) Coffey of Alexandria, VA, Vanita (Mark) Downey of Eagle Mills, Cricket (Dick) Abidin of Charlottesville, VA, and Teresa (Peter) Caminiti of Barrington, IL; 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Tesa (Leo) Lambert as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by infant daughter Joan, sister Ann Adair and brother William Gander.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy on Sunday, May 15 from 3-7 PM.

Funeral service will be held Monday, at 9 AM at the funeral home and at 9:30 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Church Wynantskill where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Anthony Ligato, Pastor.

Interment will be in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont.
