Margaret Barry Sherwin, 97

West Sand Lake, NY Margaret Barry Sherwin, 97, formerly of West Sand Lake, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2005 at Resurrection Nursing Home in Castleton.

She was the eldest daughter of Patrick J. Barry and Mary C. Grouse. Born in 1907, she was raised in Bethel, CT until her marriage to Clyde M. Sherwin in 1929.

During her 63 years in West Sand Lake she was very active in St. Henry's Parish, Averill Park, and in the local community. Margaret was a charter member of the WSL Volunteer Fire Company's Ladies Auxiliary and served in many capacities. From her home she operated the Sherwin Laundry, and later opened Margaret's Knit Shop. An accomplished seamstress, she also assisted many local charitable and educational groups.

Margaret's surviving family includes daughter, Barbara Mohan; son Mark Sherwin; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a niece and two nephews. She was predeceased by Clyde, her husband of fifty years; infant daughter Jean Margaret and siblings, John, Anna, and Mary Barry of Bethel, CT.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:30am from the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 4392 Route 150 West Sand Lake and at 11 am at St. Henry's Church in Averill Park where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-8pm. Interment St. Henry's Cemetery.
