Margaret (Rogers) Hems

Troy - Margaret Rogers Hems, 93, of Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center died Monday, August 08, 2016, at Samaritan Hospital. 

Born in Center Brunswick, NY, she was the daughter of the late Eusie A. Rogers and Clara Gummer Rogers and wife of 59 years of the late Albert F. Hems. 

Margaret was a lifelong resident of Troy and was a 1940 graduate of Troy High School and Troy Business College. 
She worked  for the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center in Troy for 11 years, retiring in 1986. 

Margaret has been a member of the Center Brunswick United Methodist Church since 1933.  She led women’s organizations, taught Sunday School, and helped with countless other activities.  A highlight of her life was to serve as volunteer organist from 1960 to 2014, playing both piano and organ for worship services, weddings, funerals and special events.  She also played for many others at the Brunswick Elks, Diamond Ridge and the Eddy.  

She was a trustee emeritus of Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center, and lived there among longtime friends for the last year of her life.  She was also a faithful volunteer in the Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary from 1950 until recently.  
Margaret also loved to paint in oils, knit, read and travel with Al.  They enjoyed trips to Scandinavia, Europe and Aruba. 
 
Survivors include her children, Carol (Harold) Shippey, Warrensburg, NY and Paul R. Hems, Center Brunswick, NY; her granddaughter, Danielle (Peter Durgin) Shippey and their daughter, Molly Durgin, Richmond, MA.
 
A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 14, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Center Brunswick United Methodist Church.
