Lydia Kittell Toomajian, 92

Troy Lydia Kittell Toomajian, 92, of Tibbits Avenue and a former resident of Beechwood Troy, died Saturday at Heritage House Nursing Center Troy.

Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late Dr. Harry G. and Elva Doty Kittell and wife of the late Leo R. Toomajian. She had resided in Scoharie for 20 years and since 1959 in Troy and was valedictorian of her class in Lansingburgh High School, a 1932 graduate of Wellesley College and earned her Masters degree from the University of Michigan.

Mrs. Toomajian taught math at Scoharie High School for over 20 years, retiring many years ago.

She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Troy, United Presbyterian Women, Tuesday Club and Business and Professional Women. She also volunteered with the Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary, the Neighborhood Nursery School of First United and for Meals on Wheels. While in Scoharie, she was a girl scout leader.

Survivors include two sons, Leo R. Toomajian (Myra) of Aurora, OH and William M. Toomajian (Tina) of Shaker Heights, OH; five grandchildren, Leo, Matthew, Christopher, Andrew and Philip Toomajian; a great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Toomajian; two sisters-in-law, Ruth and Carol Kittell; two brothers-in-law, Charles R. and Martin A. Toomajian and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00am from the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenue Troy with Rev. Donna Elia, Executive Director of Troy Area United Ministries, officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 5-8pm. Interment Elmwood Hill Cemetery in Troy.

Contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Toomajian to the Lydia Kittell Toomajian Scholarship Fund at Wellesley College Wellesley, MA or The Community Hospice of Rensselaer County 295 Valley View Blvd. Rensselaer, NY 12144.
