Lillian A. Birns

Niskayuna Lillian A. Birns, 80, of Union Street, and formerly of Clifton Park, died Monday at Samaritan Hospital Troy, after a brief illness.
Born in the Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Louis L. and Augusta Silberstein Adler and wife of the late Eugene Birns. She was educated at City College in New York City.
Mrs. Birns was President and Treasurer of Louis Birns and Sons LTD in Troy, a wholesale shoe findings company supplying to footwear retailers and shoe repair firms. The firm, located originally in New York City, has been in business for over 55 years. Mrs. Birns relocated the business to Troy in 1976 after the death of her husband.
She was a member of the Shoe Service Institute of America and the Boston Shoe Travelers Association.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews of New York City and New Jersey. She was predeceased by a son, Lloyd Eugene Birns; a sister, Rebecca ““Betty”” Adler; and a brother, Nathaniel ““Nate”” Adler.
A memorial service, to be held at the Garner Earl Crematory Chapel at Oakwood Cemetery, will be announced later. Arrangements are by the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc., 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy, NY 12180.
There will be no calling hours.
Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Troy.
Contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Birns to the Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308.
