Kurt H. Maschewski

Brunswick - Kurt H. Maschewski, 78, of  Mountain View Avenue died Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a long illness surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Manhattan, he was son of the late Kurt Maschewski and Luise Schipps Maschewski and husband for 58 years of Marie Shackett Maschewski. He was a talented house remodeler, working on the home they have lived in for the past 53 years and was a 1958 graduate of Troy High School. 

Kurt was a service foreman for Niagara Mohawk for 28 years, retiring in 1994.  

Kurt played soccer while in highschool and was inducted into the Edward Pickens Troy High School Hall of Fame in 1999. He also played soccer for Troy Germania Hall from 1959-1965 and refereed for semi-pro soccer for several years. He was a volunteer fireman for the Mt. View Fire Company for many years, a member of the C.R.A.B. club in South Troy and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. He was a member of the Niagara Mohawk Pension Club East, a life member of the Brunswick Lodge of Elks #2556 and its dart league. Kurt enjoyed playing pinochle, camping with his children for many years and traveling in their motor home across the country with Marie. Kurt loved golfing, Saratoga Casino, playing Bocce in the back yard, watching sports on TV and the American Legion Dart League in Wynantskill.      

Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter, Denise (Jeff) Ferrara; two sons, Kevin (Mary Beth) Maschewski and Michael Maschewski; two granddaughters, Isabella Ferrara and Morgan Maschewski; two sisters-in-law, Jeanne Stinson and JoEllen Shackett; two brothers-in-law, Ronald (Deb) Shackett and George (Marilyn) Shackett and  several nieces and cousins.  He was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Adrienne Shackett and two brothers-in-law, Robert and John Shackett. He also had many dedicated co-workers and friends.  

The family wishes to thank the Visiting Nurse Association Palliative Care for their dedication and compassion.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Monday April 24, 2017 from 4-7PM. 

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10AM at the funeral home and at 10:30AM at Sacred Heart Church in Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Interment will be private at a later date at St. Jean's Cemetery Troy.
