April 30, 2014

Kathleen Elizabeth (Siek) Quirk, 67

North Greenbush -Kathleen Elizabeth (Siek) Quirk died of leukemia on April 30, after a courageous three-year battle with various blood cancers. Kathy was born on July 24, 1946, the daughter of the late Raymond and Ruth Siek of Troy and the beloved wife of Edward J. Quirk.

Kathy graduated from Averill Park High School, State University College at Oneonta, and the College of Saint Rose Graduate School. She retired as Associate Dean of Instructional Support Services and Retention after thirty years of employment at Hudson Valley Community College--five months before her cancer diagnosis.

Kathy loved working with her HVCC colleagues, going to the ocean, taking trips with dear friends, reading, and being with friends and family.

She also had the deepest respect and affection for her oncology specialists, Dr. Nini Wu and RPA Lisa Wolfe (New York Oncology and Hematology), Drs. Robert L. Schlossman and Martha Wadleigh (Dana Farber Cancer institute), who led her fight and encouraged her to live every moment to the fullest.

Kathy was predeceased by her brother Raymond Richard (Dick) Siek and her brother and sister-in-law Robert and Janice Siek. She is survived by her husband and care taker, Ed; her children, Erin K. Quirk (Wade Lawrence) of North Greenbush and Brian E. Quirk (Jennifer) of Oakland, New Jersey; and her sister and friend, Diane Brunelle of Rensselaer. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Diane Siek (the late Richard) of Daytona Beach, Florida as well as seven special nieces and nephews. Kathy considered herself lucky to have married into the Quirk family and leaves behind a host of dear relatives. Special thanks to the friends who visited, sent cards, and prayed for Kathy during her illness.

She very reluctantly leaves behind her grandchildren: Curtis, Wynn, James, and Jack; and Brady and Cammi.

Family and friends may gather from 4-7 PM on Monday, May 5 at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy . Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 9 AM at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Schuylerville.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Kathleen E. Quirk to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute 44 Binney Street Boston, MA 02115.
