Joseph F. Rooney Sr., 87

Cohoes Joseph F. Rooney Sr., 87, of Conliss Avenue, died Sunday at Hallmark Nursing Centre Troy, after a brief illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Joseph T. and Bridget Condon Rooney and husband of Betty Carney Murray Rooney and the late Ann Owens Rooney . He had resided in Cohoes for the past 18 years and in Troy and Eagle Mills for many years and attended Troy schools.

For the past 15 years, Joe owned and operated Harmony Hill Gallery on River Street in Troy and prior to that worked for the Delaware & Hudson Railroad in Colonie for 37 years retiring in 1975 as Yardmaster in Colonie.

He was a member of the Arts Committee for the Albany International Airport and a former member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians, the Knights of Columbus and the Triune Club in Colonie. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Troy.

Survivors in addition to his wife of 25 years include three sons, Joseph F. Rooney Jr. (Sylvia) of Eagle Mills, John T. Rooney (Mary Ellen) of Anaheim Hills, CA and Thomas D. Rooney (Phyllis) of Troy; a daughter, Nancy A. Rooney of Troy; a step daughter Donna Williams (Douglas) of Wynantskill; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Rooney of Troy; a sister, Catherine Cramer (Charles) of Troy; 9 grandchildren, Louisa Sorriento, and Stephen, Michael, Jeffrey, David, Brian, Meeghan, Kevin and Lisa Rooney; three step grandchildren, Douglas Williams Jr. and Darcy Williams Kancyr and Derick Williams; 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son George M. Rooney and two brothers Thomas and Maurice Rooney and two sisters Agnes Rooney and Mary Nagle.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 9:00am from the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenues in Troy and at 9:30am from St. Joseph's Church in Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 3-5 and 7-9PM. Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery in Troy.
