Joseph P. Mangione Jr.

Troy - Joseph P. Mangione Jr., of Central Avenue passed into eternal rest Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Van Rensselaer Manor after a brief illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Joseph P. Mangione Sr. and Elizabeth Kehn Mangione.

He was a lifelong resident of Troy, and an active community member. He graduated from Troy High School in 1955. Joe was a Korean War Army veteran serving as a medic at Westpoint Military Academy. Joe was a salesman by trade, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Troy Board of Education from 1979-1985. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Troy and a member of the Troy High School Alumni Association, the Troy Council Knights of Columbus and a Menands Workshop (Northeast Career Planning) volunteer. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and sailing on Saratoga Lake.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Florence Millhouse Mangione and by five sons, Joseph K. (Judy)Mangione, Albany, Robert C. (Toni) Mangione, Parker, CO, William M. Mangione, Troy, Mark E. Mangione, Fredericksburg, VA and Kurt J. (Laura) Mangione, Niskayuna, NY; a daughter, Amy C. Bertrand, Troy; two brothers, Gerard E. (Joyce) Mangione, Latham and Michael F. (Marie) Mangione, Troy; a sister, Susan A.(Thomas)Ostrowski, Troy; 11 grandchildren; a great grandson; his best 4 legged friend, Caesar and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at Sacred Heart Church Pawling Avenue Troy on Monday from 10:15-11:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:30AM at the Church.

Interment will be in St. Jean's Cemetery Troy.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Joseph P. Mangione Jr. to the Van Rensselaer Manor Activities Department 85 Blooming Grove Drive Troy, NY 12180 or Northeast Career Planning 339 Broadway Menands, NY 12204.
