North Greenbush - Joseph P. Comitale, 86, of Frederick Place died Friday, October 21, 2016, at his residence after a long illness.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late Dominick Comitale and Rosaria Pitaniello Comitale and husband for 20 years of Eleanor Sowalskie Comitale. He had resided the past 20 years in North Greenbush and attended Hudson Valley Community College for carpentry.
Mr. Comitale was active duty in the Army for 20 years, and later worked another 20 years at the carpentry shop at the Watervliet Arsenal. He received numerous commendations from the army and the Arsenal. Joseph also worked 12 years as a driver for Meals On Wheels.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veteran's, Watervliet VFW, Watervliet Lodge of Elks #1500 and a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church Troy. He loved woodworking and constructing many items including plaques for the Watervliet Arsenal. He was a Army veteran of the Korean War stationed in France and Germany.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his children, Joseph Michael (Barbara) Comitale, Stillwater, Rosemarie (Paul) Blickfeld, Troy and Martin (Tammy) Comitale, Stillwater; two step children Tina Fitzmaurice (Rich)of South Daytona and Sharee Seyffer (Charlie)of Troy, a brother, John (Janice) Comitale, Troy and a sister, Rae Stec, Troy. Also survived by his grandchildren, Patrick and Joseph Comitale Devin Fucci, Tristan Blickfeld ,his great grandchildren, Averi and Cora,Carter and Ryan and Anthony and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Mary Cook and Millie VanBuran, and brother Louis Comitale.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Monday, October 24, 2016 from 5-7 PM.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 9:30 AM at the funeral home and at 10 AM at St. Michael the Archangel Church Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Schuylerville, Tuesday at 12:30 PM.
