Joseph C. Breen, 75

Melrose and Mims, FL - Joseph C. Breen, 75, of Ford Road Melrose died Saturday, April 12, 2014, at his residence after a long illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Frank Breen and Catherine Woodcock Breen and husband for 51 years of Judith Hotaling Breen. He was raised in Lansingburgh and Melrose and resided in West Sand Lake for 15 years and in Melrose since 1985 and was a 1957 graduate of Hoosic Valley High School and earned his undergraduate and Master's degrees from Siena College and a Master's from RPI.

Mr. Breen was a procurement agent for the Watervliet Arsenal for 25 years retiring in 1993. He also worked at International Harvester and in the tire business working for BF Goodrich and Montgomery Ward as well as having his own tire business. He was a private contractor for the Department of Defense in Kuwait many years ago, also earned his Real Estate license and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War stationed in Germany.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter, Heidi (Scott) Calhoun, Melrose; a son, Derik (Carole) Breen, Burlington, VT; a brother, John F. (Patricia) Breen, Rock Ledge, FL; his grandchildren, Erika (Sid) Vorce, Ericka Page, Joseph M. and Sydnie A. Dobert and Alicia K and Aaron J. Breen and Katie G. Calhoun; a great granddaughter, Aubree E. Vorce; several nieces, nephews and cousins including a special cousin William F. Breen. Also his little buddies, Pepe and Teddy.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to The Community Hospice of Rensselaer County and especially Jaime Barge for their care of Joe.

Relatives and friends may call at the Transfiguration Parish formerly St. Bonaventure's Church 50 Hillview Drive Speigletown on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 10-12 Noon with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 12 Noon by Rev. George Fleming, Pastor.

Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery North Troy.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Joseph Breen to Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society 3 Oakland Avenue Menands, NY 12204.
