John G. Zaffuts

Troy - John G. Zaffuts of Roselawn Ave., Troy, N.Y died Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Mr. Zaffuts was from 1955, the Director of Music for the Troy City Schools. In 1976 until his retirement, Mr. Zaffuts was the Troy City Schools' Coordinator of Theatre, Performing & Fine Arts Education. Mr. Zaffuts did extensive work throughout his career in musicology and interdisciplinary humanities education. As a consultant, he assisted in the completion of the first New York State Education Humanities Syllabus. He was a John Hay Fellowship recipient.

Survivors include his wife Regina, two daughters, Monica (David) Biggs of Troy and Rosemarie (Joe) Posillico of Latham; two sons, Gerald (Debra) of Troy and Paul (Stephanie Maxwell) of Great Falls, Virginia, and eight grandchildren Mark, Michael, Daniel, Joseph, John, Troy, Alexandra, and Jessica.

The family would like to thank John's doctors and nurses that helped him over the years as well as Dr. Lesley Danskin and her staff at Community Hospice of Rensselaer County for their loving care and support.

The funeral will be private; there will be no viewing hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in memory of John to The Community Hospice Foundation of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144.
