John Leslie Wortz, 91

Troy - John Leslie Wortz, 91, formerly of Meadow Drive died Thursday, May 27, 2010, at Samaritan Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Philmont, NY, he was son of the late John Leslie Wortz and Nellie Mary Barringer Wortz and husband of Marjorie Elizabeth Worton Wortz. He was educated in Wynantskill and Troy High School and has resided in North Greenbush since he was 3.

John was employed as welder for Altech Specialty Steel in Watervliet for 32 years and during World War II he was employed as a chain maker at Troy Chain Works, a family business.

He was involved with the Wynantskill Boy Scouts, was an active member in his church, choir, and bowling league. He greatly enjoyed his home workshop. If you ever needed a tool or something fixed he was the man for the job.

Survivors in addition to his wife include 3 daughters Donna (Terry) Delong, Edgewater, FL, Cheryl (James) Croll, Averill Park, and Connie (Richard) Russell, Troy; grandchildren Scott and Ronald Delong, Gregory (Christina) Croll, Jessica (Timothy) Kane, Kevin (Tara Kim) and Richard (Lauren) Russell; great grandchildren Elizabeth and Anna Croll; a brother Lawrence (Margaret) Wortz; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Evelyn Dexter.

Funeral service will be private at the convenience of the family

Interment will be in Memory's Garden in Colonie.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of John Leslie Wortz to the Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church 520 Pawling Avenue Troy, NY 12180 or a charity of ones choice.
