John F. Nigro, 90

Averill Park - John F. Nigro, 90,of Cherokee Drive, died Saturday, January 26, 2008 at his residence after a long illness.

Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late John Nigro and Mathilda (Contrata) Nigro and husband of the late Anne Cappuccilli Nigro.

He was raised and resided in Brooklyn for 19 years and had resided in New Hampshire and Millbrook, NY for several years prior to moving to Dutch Acres in North Greenbush in June of 1967. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University and the University of Washington at Seattle.

Mr. Nigro was employed at the US Forest Service Department of Agriculture and most recently with the US Soil Conservation Service for 35 years, since 1967 as a District Conservationist, retiring in January of 1982.

He was a former member of the American Legion in Millbrook, NY, VFW and Poestenkill Senior Citizens. An Army veteran of World War II during the Invasion of Normandy and was stationed in the Pacific and European Theatres.

He is survived by four sons, John Michael Nigro of Picayune, MS, Richard A. (Christine) Nigro of Gloversville, Joseph J. Nigro of Averill Park and Thomas A. Nigro of Averill Park and two grandchildren, Michael and Bryan Nigro.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:30am at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at 11:00am at St. Jude' the Apostle Church in Wynantskill where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Salvatore Rodino, Pastor.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4-7pm.

Interment St. Henry's Cemetery in Averill Park. A special thank you goes to John's primary caregiver, Linda L. Rubino, who cared for John during his most difficult final months, and who was at his side at the moment of his passing. Also a special thank you goes to John's caregivers, Donna Deberardinis, Cindy Kane and to The Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.
