Grafton - John D. Marra, Sr., 77, died Thursday, May 5, 2016, at St. Peter's Hospital after a short illness.
 
Born in Troy, he was the son of the late John Harold Marra and Elsie Gledhill Marra. He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Gillick Marra, with whom he had celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary on July 3, 2015. He was raised in Lansingburgh for 14 years, spent most of his life in Grafton and was a graduate of Berlin Central High School. 
 
John was employed at the General Electric Silicone Plant in Waterford for over 30 years, retiring in 2000.   
 
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. John was also a member of The Green Island Rod & Gun Club in Schaghticoke. He loved being outdoors, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and archery. He was a kind man who was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and he enjoyed spending time with his family.
 
Survivors include his children, Lynn (Edward) Nadareski, Wynantskill, John D. (Jennifer) Marra, Jr., East Greenbush and Janice (Robert) Gavin, Albany; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Nicholas and Kristin Nadareski and Maeve, Jack, Molly and Madelyn Marra; his sisters-in-law, Janice (late Paul) Nicoll, Melrose and Mary Jo (Lewis) Church, Grafton; brothers-in-law, John and Michael Gillick, Troy; his dog, Buddy and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Geraldine Brown and a sister-in-law, Diane Struss.
 
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 from 4-7 PM. 
 
Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 9 AM at the funeral home and at 9:30 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Church Wynantskill where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Anthony Ligato, Pastor.
 
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.
 
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of John D. Marra, Sr. to the American Heart Association,  4 Atrium Dr #100 Albany, NY 12205 or Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue Menands, NY 12204.
