John C. Ide, 96

Troy-John C. Ide, husband of the late Elizabeth Wilsey Ide, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy.

Born in Troy, he was the son of the late A. Harris Ide and Jean (Crittenden) Ide and brother of the late Jean Ide Elliott and A. Harris Ide Jr and many cousins.

He had resided in the Troy area all his life.

Mr. Ide was a veteran of World War II, was an instructor at the Ordinance School, Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland and later served in the 32nd Infantry Division in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He was awarded the Bronze Star.

Mr. Ide was retired from Alleghany Ludlum Steel Corporation in Watervliet and later from the Rensselaer County Department of Social Services. He was a long time member of the Country Club of Troy, a former member of the Board of Governors and an avid golfer, making a hole in one at the age of 80. He was a communicant of St. John's Episcopal Church in Troy.

Survivors include his niece, Jean C. Elliott of Parkton, MD; two nephews, Philip V. Sturges of Keystone Heights, FL and Anthony I. Elliott of Naples, FL and many cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery in Troy and are asked to gather at the Gardner Earl Memorial Chapel on Saturday at 12:30pm with Rev. Dr. Harold Carrier, Rector, officiating.
