Joan (Pigeon) Smith

N. Greenbush - Joan Smith, 84, died Saturday, January 07, 2017, at the Van Rensselaer Manor.

Born in Albany, she was daughter of the late Victor and Catherine Kelsch Pigeon. Joan was a graduate of Philip Schuyler High School in Albany.

She was a supervisor for the NYS Teachers Retirement System for many years.

Joan loved animals, especially dogs, and her family had several throughout the years, including Pal, Pepper, Duncan, Samson and Hendricks..    

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah (Paul Sapone) Smith, Colonie; her grandchildren, Shaunna (Wes) Lucas and Brandon Siver; her siblings, June Tallmadge and  George Hollner. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased her son, Leo Smith and brother, Robert Pigeon.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, at 1 PM at the  Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy    with Deacon Charles Wojton , officiating.

Interment will be in  Oakwood Cemetery Troy.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Joan Smith to the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society 3 Oakland Avenue Menands, NY 12204.
