Janice H. (Stevens) Sencer

July 1, 1944 ~ August 14, 2014 (age 70) 70 Years Old

Poestenkill - Janice H. Stevens Sencer, 70, of Snake Hill Road died Thursday, August 14, 2014, at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Albany, she was daughter of the late Joseph Vincent Stevens and Mary Nerf Stevens and wife for 49 years of Michael W. Sencer. She was raised in West Sand Lake and resided in Poestenkill for the past 46 years and was a graduate of Averill Park High School class of 1962 and attended Mildred Elley and SUNY Oswego. 

Mrs. Sencer was employed as a secretary for the Office of Medical Conduct for the New York State Department of Health for 16 years retiring in 2009.  Previously, she was employed as the Superintendent of Oakwood Cemetery in Troy.  

She was a member of the Country Club of Troy and loved her camp on Great Sacandaga Lake , as well as boating and traveling.    

Survivors in addition to her husband include her children, Therese (Steven) Heilman, Castleton, Michelle (Richard Baver) Sencer, Bolton, CT, Christopher (Karin) Sencer, Speigletown and Leslie (Michael) Hurley, Averill Park and 7 grandchildren, Sean Hurley, Liam McGrath, Sydney Hurley, Ryan Sencer, Connor McGrath and Lily and John Sencer.                            

Relatives and friends may call at the St. Henry's Church 39 Old Route 66 Averill Park on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 from 4-6 PM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 6:00 PM with Rev. Thomas F. Holmes, Pastor.

Interment will be held at a later date with family members in Oakwood Cemetery Troy.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Janice H. Sencer to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
