Janet Ione Sharp Neitzel

North Greenbush - Janet Ione Sharp Neitzel died on April 22nd at Van Rensselaer Manor at the age of 89. Janet was born in 1920 in the Town of Brunswick. She was the daughter of Prof. H. Oakley Sharp and Edith lone Davis Sharp, and the sister of H. Oakley Sharp, Jr. and Hannah Elizabeth Sharp.

Janet was educated in the Troy Public School System, at Emma Willard School, and Russell Sage College where she majored in home economics.

In July of 1941 she married Robert P. Neitzel. They lived for many years in Cropseyville with their four children: Deedra I. S. Neitzel Bowman, Owen K. S. Neitzel, Ina A. S. Neitzel, all currently residing in Brunswick, and Oakley R. S. Neitzel of Altamont. In 1963 the family moved to Janet s grandparents home.

Throughout her life Janet donated countless volunteer hours, beginning as a volunteer and board member of the Junior League of Troy and the Visiting Nurse Association. She especially loved working with children and was active for many years in the nursery, kindergarten, and youth programs at Trinity Methodist Church and Christ Church United Methodist; the Girl Scouts as Leader and Consultant; the Cub Scouts; and the Junior Museum. Both Janet and her husband Bob were active in the Brunswick Historical Society.

Janet is best remembered by her family and friends as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who always had time to give extra love and attention. She was well known for her cooking, sewing, and knitting, especially her beautiful hand knit booties. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her children, her granddaughters Jessica L. Neitzel, Janna R. Neitzel, and Sara J. Neitzel, her daughters-in-law Tracy McGrath Neitzel and Mary Carol Neitzel, and her son-in-law Lewis C. Bowman.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy with Rev. David Martin, Pastor of Hope United Methodist Church, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 PM.

Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery Troy.
