Janet A. Garrahan Dodson, 79

Troy - Janet A. Garrahan Dodson, 79, of Blakely Court died Tuesday, October 02, 2012, at Samaritan Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Troy , she was daughter of the late Frank J. Garrahan and Elizabeth G. Cavanaugh Garrahan and was beloved wife of Charles L. Dodson Jr for 54 years. She had resided in Troy all her life. Janet was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, Class of 1951, earned her Bachelor's degree from Marymount College in Tarrytown and her Master's degree from the College of St. Rose in Albany.

Janet was a teacher for over 40 years retiring in 1998 as a 5th grade teacher at Loudonville Elementary School in the North Colonie District.

She was a volunteer at the Troy Public Library, a member of the Sacred Heart Women's Club, North Colonie Parent Teachers Association, the New York State Retired Teachers and a 4H Leader. She enjoyed reading, knitting, and swimming.

Survivors in addition to her husband include her 4 children, Ann Dodson, Troy, Ellen Dodson, Harrison, NY, Kathleen Dodson, Troy and David (Elaine) Dodson, Brunswick; two granddaughters, Rebecca and Shannon Dodson; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, James L. Garrahan.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Friday from 4 - 7 PM.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, at 9:30 AM at the funeral home Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. James J. Vaughan.

Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery West Sand Lake.

The family wishes to thank the Samaritan Hospital ICU and respiratory staff for their care.
