May your hearts continue to be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together. My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May Our Lord's Christ Jesus' promise of a resurrection, strengthen your hearts until the day when death is no more, and honest-hearted ones will see lost loved ones once again (John 5:28, 29). In the meantime, may your memories, and the love and support of dear family and friends comfort you.

James was a good friend to me for 5 months while I was away at Samaritan Village - Cape Road. We shared a lot of deep talks-- although I did not know him for very long, living and seeing someone everyday for nearly 5 months provides enough time to get to know someone-- with someone like James though, it only took a few days to see the caring, gentle, and kind-hearted soul he truly was. On one of my worst days, he handed me a paper flower he crafted to cheer me up; he never really had to say much to put a smile on one's face--he had great intuition and knew when to lend an ear. I am still clean today, but know how debilitating this disease is no matter how much support and love encompassed around you. I am so deeply sorry for your loss, although I know this is not much of a comfort at this time. Know that James helped so many at Samaritan with whom who he crossed paths.

James Matzen – “Your soul is at peace and your heart is healed”

My sister Edie adored all of her children and the love shared goes beyond words. Her home was a warm and welcoming place that was filled with laughter and often silly pranks at your expense. She was a proud mom and absolutely loved every minute especially when she could care for her children’s every need. This all came to an end when James was only 15 years old. Her life ended too soon and he was completely devastated. His heart was broken and suddenly he felt lost and alone during this very sad time in his life. He was a young teenager just trying to figure out his own destiny when his world was shattered. Over the years he tried to ease his pain with drugs and alcohol, but this did nothing but temporarily numb the sorrow he felt in his heart. I recently spent some time with him and was encouraged by how much progress he was making and he really seemed to be happy with his new job. We played poker together at Brendan’s farm and had a great time. He appeared to be happy and on the right path in life. I’ll never know what happened on his last day or why he left our world so soon. I do know that he was welcomed into heaven by his loving Mom and his suffering is finally over. James, you are home now and in good hands.

Love always,

Uncle Den
