Howard P. Shorkey, 85

Troy - Howard P. Shorkey, 85, of Troy died Sunday, July 31, 2011, at St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Albert Shorkey and Harriet Gregoire Shorkey and husband of Josephine Juan Shorkey. He was raised in Watervliet, resided in Binghamton for 34 years and resided most recently in Troy. He was a graduate of Watervliet High School and the first electronics class of Hudson Valley Community College.

Mr. Shorkey was an electronics engineer for Singer-Link Corporation in Binghamton for 38 years retiring in 1984.

He was a former member of the Binghamton Knights of Columbus, John L. Patton American Legion in Watervliet, loved fishing, had a great sense of humor and loved family and travel. He was a Marine Corp veteran of World War II stationed in the Pacific theatre 5th Marine Division during Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima . He earned the Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Commendation Ribbon and the Sharpshooter Rifle Badge.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, Michael D. Shorkey (Kaitlin Olmstead), Corning; a sister, Alberta Smith, Colonie; two brothers, Waldo (Ernel) Shorkey, Florida and Donald (Carol Rae) Shorkey, Troy and many cousins and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Norma Cook, Ruth Berlin and Jean Lettko and a brother, Harold Shorkey.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Tuesday, from 4-7 PM.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 9 AM at the funeral home and at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Victory Church Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Interment will be in Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Schuylerville.

The family wishes to thank St. Mary's Hospital and 5 south hospice for their care.
