Hoan Ngoc Son, 61

Troy - Hoan Ngoc Son, 61,of Pattison Way died suddenly Friday, December 8, 2006 at his residence.

Born in Tra Vinh, Vietnam, he was the son of the late Xay Son and Dinh (Thach) Son and husband of Lan Thi Thach.

Hoan and his family immigrated from Vietnam to Troy in 1985 through a refugee program sponsored by Sacred Heart Church. While in the US, Mr. Son worked for New York State in Albany for the past 20 years, in the Office of General Service and the Department of Health. Prior to the US, Hoan served as high ranking police officer in South Vietnam.

Hoan Son was highly active in the Buddhist community in New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Vietnam, regularly giving speeches at Buddhist ceremonies. Hoan was a caring, devoted husband/father and enjoyed spending time with his family and tending to his garden.

Survivors in addition to his wife include four children, Maly Son (Son Vo) of Springfield, MA., Hoa Son (Naly Rath) of Gainesville, VA, Champa Son (Philip Ho)of Parlin, NJ, and Mary Son of Troy; a brother, Sang Son of Vietnam;a granddaughter, Angelina (Cookie) Vo and his lifelong friends, Huong and Neary Thach of Watervliet.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 16, 2006 at 11:00 AM at the Gardner Earl Chapel Oakwood Cemetery Troy. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Hoan Son to Sacred Heart School 310 Spring Avenue Troy, NY 12180.
